Multiculturalism in Schools

Multiculturalism in Schools

Avoiding pouring from an empty cup

Ended  /  €625  /  Malta – Europe

Course Description

With increased human mobility and increasingly thick networks of communication, the common social fact of unequal educational experiences and outcomes is increasingly the subject of transnational dialogue. The course stems out from the need to equip educators with the knowledge, aptitude, and skills necessary to meet the increasingly challenging task of teaching across multicultural school populations. For such processes to take place schools need to have strong value based leadership teams which promote equity and social justice, with a focus on inclusionary practices rather than a series of attempts at assimilative practices. Course participants aspiring towards leadership positions will have opportunity to challenge existing leadership practices and be in a better position to resolve conflict arising from cultural disparities. The course will serve as a springboard for those seeking positive change in schools by addressing the needs of all staff, parents, and students irrespective of race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic or cultural origin.
